Heat Pump Repair & Installation in New Albany, IN

Heat pump not cooling, not heating, or iced over? We diagnose and repair every major heat pump brand, and install new systems sized to your home. Call (812) 944-6019.

One System, Both Seasons

A heat pump does the work of a furnace and an air conditioner in a single system, moving heat instead of burning fuel to make it. That is what makes it efficient, and it is also why a heat pump failure is worse than a normal breakdown. When it quits, you lose heating and cooling at the same time.

We have been servicing heat pumps across New Albany, Southern Indiana, and the Louisville metro since 1978, including systems we did not install. If yours is blowing warm air when it should be cold, frozen over in January, or stuck in one mode, we will find out why and tell you what it costs before any work starts.

Heat Pump Repair

The Heat Pump Problems We Fix

Heat pumps fail differently than furnaces and air conditioners. These are the calls we get most.

Running, But Not Cooling

The outdoor fan is turning and the indoor unit is running, but the air coming out of the vents is not cold. Often a refrigerant, reversing valve, or compressor issue, and the line set temperature usually tells us which.

Frozen or Iced Over

Some frost in winter is normal and clears on its own during the defrost cycle. Ice that stays, builds up, or appears in summer is not normal and needs to be looked at before the compressor is damaged.

Stuck in One Mode

A heat pump that heats but will not cool, or cools but will not heat, usually points to the reversing valve or its control circuit. This is the failure most often mistaken for needing a whole new system.

Signs Your Heat Pump Needs Service

Call us if you are seeing any of these.

Air from the vents is not cold in summer

The house will not hold temperature in winter

Ice on the outdoor unit that does not clear

Emergency or auxiliary heat runs constantly

Grinding, screeching, or loud humming outside

The unit short cycles or never shuts off

Not sure whether what you are seeing is normal? Call (812) 944-6019 and we will talk it through before sending anyone out.

Our Heat Pump Services

Repair, installation, and seasonal upkeep for heat pumps of every major brand.

Heat Pump Repair

Diagnosis and repair of heat pumps that are not heating, not cooling, freezing over, or running constantly. We service systems regardless of who installed them, and our trucks carry common failure parts.

Heat Pump Installation & Replacement

We size the system to the home rather than matching whatever was there before, then handle the full installation. Free estimates, a firm written price up front, and financing available.

Seasonal Maintenance

Because a heat pump runs year round, it sees roughly twice the hours of a furnace or AC. Our maintenance plan covers it across both seasons so wear gets caught early.

NAH&AC is our go-to. They are quick to respond to voicemails, quick to show up on site, are always friendly and the prices are always fair. Today, Chris showed up 30 minutes after we called and was able to get my mom's AC (which is an ancient unit) up and running quickly. We were so grateful for the excellent and fast customer service.

NA Heating and Air has been our provider for years. They maintain our furnace and a/c, and on the rare occasion we have a problem, respond quickly. When it was time to replace the furnace, we chose them. Our previous unit had a 10 year warranty, at 16 years going into winter, we chose to be proactive, and had a new unit installed. We recommend them without reservation!

FAQs

Heat Pump FAQs

Why is my heat pump running but not blowing cold air?
The outdoor fan turning does not mean the system is actually moving heat. Common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a failing reversing valve, a struggling compressor, or a dirty coil restricting airflow. One useful clue is the line set running from the outdoor unit to the house: if it feels warm when the system is calling for cooling, that points toward a refrigerant or reversing valve problem. It needs an on-site diagnosis to know for certain.
Not necessarily. Heat pumps deliver heat at a lower temperature than a furnace does, so the air from the vents can feel cool against your skin even when the system is working correctly. Heat pumps also run a defrost cycle in cold weather, during which they briefly blow cooler air while melting frost off the outdoor coil. If the house is actually holding its temperature, the system is likely fine. If it is losing ground, call us.
Light frost in winter that clears on its own during the defrost cycle is normal. Ice that keeps building, covers the whole unit, or never melts is not, and running the system in that condition risks damaging the compressor. Ice in summer is never normal. In either case, switch the system off and call us, because a frozen unit cannot be properly diagnosed until it thaws.
Modern heat pumps perform far better in cold weather than older models did, and most homes in this region are heated effectively by one. On the coldest days, the system supplements with auxiliary heat. What matters is that the unit is correctly sized for your home and the auxiliary heat is set up properly. If your auxiliary heat is running constantly, something is wrong and it is worth a service call.
It depends entirely on what failed. A capacitor or contactor is a modest repair, while a compressor or reversing valve is a major one. Our technicians diagnose the system on site, explain what they found, and give you a firm price before any repair work begins. Call (812) 944-6019 to get on the schedule.
As a rough guide, if the system is under about ten years old and the failed part is not the compressor, repair usually wins. If it is past twelve to fifteen years, repairs are becoming routine, or the compressor has gone, replacement is generally the better investment. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than defaulting to the bigger sale.
Yes. We size the system to your home based on square footage, insulation, ductwork, and layout rather than simply matching the old unit, then handle the full installation. Estimates are free, you get a firm written price before anything is ordered, and financing is available on new systems.
It needs maintenance more often, because it runs in both seasons and therefore accumulates roughly twice the operating hours of a system that only works half the year. Coils, the defrost control, refrigerant charge, and airflow all need checking. Our maintenance plan covers the system across both seasons.
