Repair It, or Replace It?

Nobody plans to replace an air conditioner. It usually comes up in the middle of a July heat wave, right after a repair quote lands higher than expected. The real question is whether this system has years left in it or whether you are about to spend good money on a unit that will fail again next summer.

We will give you a straight answer. If the repair is the smarter spend, we will say so and fix it. If replacement genuinely makes more sense, we will show you the math and quote a firm price before anything is ordered. We have been making that call honestly in New Albany since 1978.

AC Replacement

The Systems We Replace

Whatever is cooling your home now, we can replace it with something better matched to the house.

Central Air Conditioner Replacement

The job we do most. We remove the old condenser and coil, handle the line set, electrical, and refrigerant, and install a properly sized system matched to your existing furnace or air handler.

AC & Furnace Replaced Together

When both systems are near the end, replacing them as a matched set costs less than two separate projects, and matched equipment runs more efficiently than a mismatched pairing.

Ductless Alternatives

If the problem is one room that never cools, or a home where ductwork is impractical, a ductless mini-split may fit better than a full central replacement. We will tell you if that is the case.

Signs It Is Time to Replace Your AC

One of these alone may not mean much. Several together usually do.

The system is 12 to 15 years old or more

Cooling bills climbing with no change in habits

Repairs are getting frequent, or the next one is major

Rooms cool unevenly or the unit runs nonstop

It still runs on R-22, which is no longer produced

The compressor has failed or is failing

Not sure where your system stands? Call (812) 944-6019 and we will take a look and tell you honestly.

How AC Replacement Works With Us

Three steps, no pressure and no surprise invoice.

1. Free In-Home Estimate

We look at the house, not just the old unit. Square footage, ductwork, insulation, windows, and layout all change what you actually need. Then you get a firm written price.

2. Properly Sized Equipment

An oversized air conditioner short cycles, never pulls humidity out of the air, and wears out early. An undersized one runs constantly. We size the system to your home.

3. Clean Install and Full Testing

We remove the old equipment, install the new system, verify the refrigerant charge and airflow, test operation, and walk you through the thermostat before we leave.

Why New Albany Heating & Air

An air conditioner is a ten to fifteen year decision. Here is what you get buying it from us.

Family owned and operated since 1978

Licensed, certified, and insured technicians

Free estimates and a firm price up front

Financing available on new systems

Load sizing, not guesswork

We will tell you to repair it if repair is right

We are not a franchise, and we are not going to sell you a new system in August because it is easier than fixing the one you have. Call (812) 944-6019.

NAH&AC is our go-to. They are quick to respond to voicemails, quick to show up on site, are always friendly and the prices are always fair. Today, Chris showed up 30 minutes after we called and was able to get my mom's AC (which is an ancient unit) up and running quickly. We were so grateful for the excellent and fast customer service.

NA Heating and Air has been our provider for years. They maintain our furnace and a/c, and on the rare occasion we have a problem, respond quickly. When it was time to replace the furnace, we chose them. Our previous unit had a 10 year warranty, at 16 years going into winter, we chose to be proactive, and had a new unit installed. We recommend them without reservation!

FAQs

AC Replacement FAQs

How much does AC replacement cost?
It depends on the size of your home, the efficiency level you choose, and whether any ductwork or electrical work is needed, so we do not quote a flat number sight unseen. Estimates are free. Call (812) 944-6019 and we will look at the house and give you a firm written price before anything is ordered.
As a rough guide, if the system is under about ten years old and the repair is modest, repair usually wins. If it is past twelve to fifteen years, repairs are becoming routine, or the compressor has failed, replacement is generally the better investment. We will tell you which situation you are actually in rather than defaulting to the bigger sale.
No. R-410A systems are still perfectly legal to own, run, and service, and anyone telling you otherwise is not being straight with you. New equipment is shifting to lower-GWP refrigerants like R-454B, but that applies to what gets manufactured, not to the working system sitting outside your house. Replace it when it makes sense for you, not because of a refrigerant headline.
R-22 is a different story. It has not been produced or imported since 2020, so the only supply left is reclaimed, and the price reflects that. A significant leak in an R-22 system often costs more to recharge than the repair is worth, which is why replacement frequently makes more sense on those units. We will price both options for you.
If both are near the end of their service life, replacing them together usually costs less than two separate projects, and a matched system performs better than mismatched equipment. If your furnace has years left, there is no reason to replace it early, and we will say so.
A straightforward replacement is usually completed in a single day. Jobs involving ductwork changes, electrical upgrades, or replacing the air conditioner and furnace together can run longer. We will tell you what to expect when we give you the estimate.
Size is based on the home, not the old unit. Square footage, ceiling height, insulation, window area, ductwork, and layout all factor in. We calculate the load rather than simply matching whatever was installed before, because an oversized unit short cycles and leaves the house humid.
Yes, financing is available on new systems. Ask us about the current options when we provide your estimate.
