It is the question every homeowner asks when the heat goes out on an aging system, and the honest answer depends on the furnace in front of us. A ten year old unit with a bad ignitor is worth repairing. A twenty year old unit with a cracked heat exchanger is not.

They maintain our furnace and a/c, and on the rare occasion we have a problem, respond quickly. When it was time to replace the furnace, we chose them. How much does furnace replacement cost?

It depends on the size of your home, the efficiency level you choose, and whether any venting or ductwork changes are needed, so we do not quote a flat number sight unseen. Estimates are free. Call (812) 944-6019 and we will look at the house and give you a firm written price before anything is ordered.

Should I repair my furnace or replace it?

As a rule of thumb, if the furnace is under about twelve years old and the repair is modest, repair usually wins. If it is past fifteen to twenty years, repairs are becoming routine, or the heat exchanger is cracked, replacement is generally the better investment. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than defaulting to the bigger sale.

How long does a furnace replacement take?

A straightforward replacement is typically completed in a single day. Jobs that involve venting changes, ductwork modifications, or replacing the furnace and air conditioner together can take longer. We will tell you what to expect when we give you the estimate.

Should I replace my furnace and air conditioner at the same time?

If both systems are near the end of their service life, replacing them together usually costs less than two separate projects and the matched equipment performs better than a mismatched pairing. If your air conditioner has years left, there is no reason to replace it early, and we will say so.

Do you offer financing on a new furnace?

Yes, financing is available on new systems. Ask us about the current options when we provide your estimate.

How do I know what size furnace my home needs?

Size is based on the home, not the old unit. Square footage, ceiling height, insulation, windows, ductwork, and layout all factor in. We calculate the load rather than simply matching whatever was installed before, because an oversized furnace short cycles and wears out early.

Is a high efficiency furnace worth it?

It depends on how long you plan to stay in the home and how much you currently spend on heating. Higher efficiency equipment costs more up front and returns it through lower bills over time. We will walk you through the trade off honestly for your situation rather than pushing the top of the line.

Do you replace furnaces in older and historic homes?

Yes. Much of our work is in older New Albany and Louisville area homes where duct layouts, venting, and space constraints require more thought than a new build. That is normal work for us, not an obstacle.
